Season series: The Arizona Coyotes and Washington Capitals split two games last season. Coyotes forward Shane Doan scored twice in a 6-5 win on Nov. 2, 2014. Forward Capitals forward Eric Fehr scored at 3:16 of overtime in a 2-1 win on Nov. 18, 2014.

Coyotes team scope: Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson sustained a lower-body injury in a 6-4 win against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday and is questionable. Ekman-Larsson, Arizona's leading with 45 points (17 goals, 28 assists), is day-to-day and will travel with the team when they begin a five-game road trip. "Obviously, losing [Ekman-Larsson] is a big deal," defenseman Kevin Connauton told the Arizona Republic. "He's a horse back there and one of the top guys on this team. Definitely missed him. He's our best player." Forward Max Domi has four goals and two assists in his past three games.

Capitals team scope: Washington has the top-ranked power play in the League (23.2 percent), but is 4-for-41 in their past 11 games. Coach Barry Trotz believes the power-play issues are a result of players struggling to get in sync. "When one fails, we all fail," Trotz told the Washington Post. "Probably every game if you talk to the staff, we've had one or two guys that haven't been as sharp as we've needed to be. It sort of falls apart from there. Just a little bit of sharpness in that and a little bit of execution." The Capitals play the second of a four-game homestand and are 16-1-1 in their past 18 home games. Washington's 43 wins in 57 games this season are the most wins through a team's first 57 in NHL history.
