GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Arizona Coyotes backup goalie Anders Lindback sustained an off-ice injury prior to warmups for the game against the Montreal Canadiens at Gila River Arena on Monday.
With starter Louis Domingue the only healthy goaltender on their roster, the Coyotes have men's league goalie Nathan Schoenfeld dressed as their backup.
Schoenfeld, 31, the son of former NHL coach Jim Schoenfeld and son-in-law of Arizona equipment manager Stan Wilson, is the Coyotes' local emergency goalie. He told FOX Sports Arizona during the first intermission that he was having dinner with his wife and children about an hour before game time and just made it to the arena in time for the opening faceoff.
"Sorry, I've got to go ... I just got the call," Schoenfeld said he told his family.
On his way to the arena, Schoenfeld called his father, who is a New York Rangers senior vice president and general manager of their American Hockey League affiliate.
"I [told] him if the Rangers have any scouts at the game tonight, they might want to check out the backup goalie," said Schoenfeld, who played goalie for Arizona State University's club before the school became an NCAA Division 1 program.
Lindback will be evaluated by the Coyotes medical staff during the game and a further update will be provided Tuesday.
On Dec. 16, 2010, Tom Fenton, a 26-year-old graduate student from Manhattanville College, dressed as Coyotes backup to Jason LaBarbera when starter Ilya Bryzgalov became ill.
