Zack Kassian is continuing his playing career overseas.

Kassian, who announced his retirement from the NHL in October, signed with HC Sparta Praha in the Czech Republic on Sunday.

Kassian spent last season with the Arizona Coyotes, posting two goals in 50 penalty minutes in 50 games. His contract was bought out by the Coyotes after the season.

The 33-year-old winger attended Anaheim Ducks camp on a professional tryout basis prior to this season, but was not offered a contract.

A native of Windsor, Ont., Kassian was originally taken with the 13th overall selection of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft out of the Ontario Hockey League's Peterborough Petes.

He would go on to appear in 661 games for the Buffalo SabresVancouver CanucksEdmonton Oilers and Coyotes. He has 92 goals and 111 assists over that time and his 913 career penalty minutes are ninth-most since he made his NHL debut in 2011.

Internationally, Kassian represented Canada at a number of youth levels and was a member of the team that won a silver medal at the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championships in Buffalo

{coyotes} Orlov, Fast score in final minute to lead Hurricanes to 3-1 win over Coyotes

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) Dmitry Orlov and Jesper Fast scored 13 seconds apart in the final minute of the third period, and the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Arizona Coyotes 3-1 on Saturday night.

Martin Necas also scored for the Hurricanes, who have won four of their last five games and remained two points behind the New York Rangers for first place in the Metropolitan Division. Seth Jarvis had two assists and Antti Raanta made 11 saves.

"It's important to get this win before the bye week," Orlov said. "Every point matters, especially in our division where everybody is so tight."

Logan Cooley scored for Coyotes, and Connor Ingram had 38 saves. Arizona lost its third straight.

The Coyotes only managed three shots on goal in the second period, and then did not get one in the third until the final minute. It was the fifth time in the past 10 games the Hurricanes allowed fewer than 20 shots.

"We always talk about staying on the hammer and to keep it going," defenseman Jaccob Slavin said. "It might take until the last minute for it to break but it finally did."

Despite Carolina's big advantage in shots, the score was tied at 1-1 until Orlov was able to beat Ingram on a feed from Jack Drury with 35.9 seconds left for his third goal of the season.

"You have to be patient and keep doing what you need to do and not get frustrated," Orlov said.

Fast followed that up seconds later with his fifth.

The Coyotes took a 1-0 lead with a fortunate sequence with 5:39 left in the first period. The Hurricanes got caught in a line change and Dylan Guenther led a rush into the zone. Raanta stopped Guenther's odd-angled shot from the circle but the rebound bounced into the goal off Cooley's left knee.

"The first period wasn't bad, wasn't great, but after that we just got to our game," Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "We were real patient and that was key not to get frustrated."

The Hurricanes tied it at 7:57 of the second period. Carolina had a 4-on-3 power play after a holding penalty on Nick Bjugstad. Necas converted a one-timer from the left circle, on a feed from Jarvis for his 13th of the season and fourth in the last five games.

{coyotes} Kucherov takes NHL lead in points with a goal, 2 assists in Lightning's 6-3 win over Coyotes

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) Nikita Kucherov had a goal and two assists to take the NHL lead in points and Steven Stamkos recorded his 1,100th career point as the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Arizona Coyotes 6-3 on Thursday night.

Brayden Point had a goal and an assist, Mitchell Chaffee scored his first career NHL goal and Darren Raddysh and Luke Glendening added scores for Tampa Bay, which won its fifth straight home game. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 17 shots.

Clayton Keller had a goal and an assist and defenseman Sean Durzi scored his eighth goal of the season for Arizona. Connor Ingram, who had allowed one goal in his previous two career games against Tampa Bay, allowed six goals on 37 shots.

Tampa Bay has won seven of its last eight games, while Arizona has four wins in its last 12 games.

"We're just more sound in our own end,'' Lightning head coach Jon Cooper said. "There's just a lot of excitement in the room. I think guys are feeling good about themselves. There's a lot of belief in the team.''

Kucherov, coming off a four-point game in a victory over Philadelphia on Tuesday, increased his season point total to 83 and moved ahead of Colorado's Nate MacKinnon (82). Kucherov also reached 50 assists in fewer than 50 games for the third time in his career, one of only nine players to accomplish the feat.

Stamkos recorded his milestone point with an assist on Kucherov's goal and added a power play goal at 12:02 of the second period. The goal was the 206th career power-play score for Stamkos, who ranks fifth with the most power-play goals with one franchise.

"I've been very fortunate to play with some amazing players in my career,'' said Stamkos, the 66th player all-time and sixth active player to have 1,100 points. "I always say it's pretty cool to have done it all with one team.''

Raddysh scored 24 seconds into the game, the second-fastest goal by a defenseman to start a game in franchise history. Defenseman have scored 12 goals in the last 12 games for the Lightning.

Keller tied the game at 8:40 of the first before Point put the Lightning in front for good with 33.6 seconds left in the period.

"When we mismanage our game, we pay dearly for it,'' Arizona head coach Andre Tourigny said. "I love the effort. I love our start, but unfortunately the game went away in the second period and from there it was tough."

Kucherov scored his 32nd of the season at 7:36. Chaffee, in his fifth career NHL game, made it 5-1 at 15:18 of the second and added his first career assist on Luke Glendeing's goal at 7:32 of the second period.

{coyotes} Matthew Tkachuk scores two goals and the Panthers defeat the Coyotes 6-2

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) Matthew Tkachuk scored twice and the Florida Panthers defeated the Arizona Coyotes 6-2 on Wednesday night, in a game with two fights in the first seven seconds.

Sam Reinhart, Sam Bennett, Anton Lundell and Jonah Gadjovich also scored for the Panthers while Sergei Bobrovsky made 31 saves.

"It was awesome," Tkachuk said of his team's performance. "Tons of energy from our team before the game even started. Not too thrilled with the way it ended over there in Arizona. I thought we brought it tonight and we brought it from the start. It's good to see everybody pitch in and just have a really good group effort."

Dylan Guenther and Logan Cooley scored for the Coyotes while Karel Vejmelka made 37 saves.

"We were all not connected, not urgent enough, our execution was not there, our passing was not there, our shooting was not there," Arizona coach Andre Tourigny said. "It's an off night. It's one of those nights."

The game kicked off with two fights in the first seven seconds, first between Ryan Lomberg and Jack McBain, then Gadjovich and Liam O'Brien.

Players from both sides met at center ice during pre-game warm-ups prior to the game, with the Panthers contingent unhappy after Arizona forward Jason Zucker left Florida forward Nick Cousins with a concussion after hitting him from behind in the last meeting between these two teams on Jan. 2.

Zucker was in the pre-game meet-up but was not involved in the brawl following puck drop.

"We said a lot of words," Gadjovich said. "Not a lot of nice words that I probably shouldn't repeat, but sometimes stuff like that happens and we're here to answer the bell."

Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov had an assist in his first game back from a lower-body injury which kept him out of the team's past three games.

Defenseman Gustav Forsling also returned to the lineup for Florida and notched two assists after missing the team's previous game in Nashville while on family leave.

Reinhart extended his point streak to 11 games and notched his 60th point of the season, becoming the fourth player in franchise history to do so in 47 games or fewer.

It was the 1,813th career regular-season game for Panthers coach Paul Maurice, second-most in NHL history.

"I've had a bunch of numbers, but they don't necessarily resonate a whole lot, but for whatever it was, today's did," Maurice said. "That's a lot of really good people I've worked with and it's also a lot of games that my family has had to grind to just as much as me and everybody else. Pro sports is a wonderful place, but not a particularly forgiving place to work. So, to get to that number, I would say it's special to me."

{coyotes} NHLPA head Walsh: 'Clock is ticking' on Coyotes arena situation

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

NHLPA executive director Marty Walsh said in a new interview that his organization remains in the dark about the future of the Coyotes in Arizona but that it is strongly urging the NHL to find a solution soon.

"A lot of time has gone by," Walsh told Joe Smith of The Athletic in an interview published Wednesday. "I was in Arizona probably a year ago now. … We were talking about ballot questions at that point. They felt positive about that. That didn't happen. They were talking about, 'Oh, we're going to find a new place pretty quickly.' The year has gone by and they haven't found anything, at least to my knowledge. So the clock is ticking on Arizona, in my opinion.

The Coyotes are in the second season playing at the 5,000-seat Mullett Arena on the campus of Arizona State University. The club had plans to build a new facility in Tempe, Ariz., but those plans were defeated in a public referendum last spring.

At the most recent Board of Governors meetings in early December, commissioner Gary Bettman said the club had roughly until the end of January to finalize a new plan.

"They're working on it," said Bettman on Dec. 5. "I think there was speculation that they're looking at a particular piece of property, and they're looking in the next few weeks to get it finalized and they understand that it's important for it to get finalized in time for us to do next season's schedule."

Shortly before Bettman's comment, Coyotes president Xavier Gutierrez told Craig Morgan of PHX Sports that the club hoped to make an announcement by the end of the year, or early in 2024. Gutierrez said the announcement would be for the actual choice of an arena site, not another potential site like the Tempe plan, Morgan added.

In a radio interview on Jan. 5, Gutierrez outlined the requirements imposed by the NHL after the Tempe vote failure and said the team has until the end of the season to close a deal.

"It comes from the requirements that were imposed on us by the NHL that we find a location and pursue a path that would not subject us to a public referendum vote, and really that has squared in finding a piece of land that is zoned for an arena so we can still move forward," Gutierrez said told Arizona Sports' Burns & Gambo, adding "We still envision this to be a landmark project, privately funded, we're gonna buy the land and build the buildings and maintain them ourselves like we've said all along."

In his interview with The Athletic, Walsh said the team has not contacted the NHLPA about the matter but that Bettman keeps him updated on the situation.

"They have not had conversations with me at all," Walsh said. "I believe they've been talking to the league, but they've not talked to me about it, which I think is a little strange. You would think they'd want to keep us up to date because we've been pretty vocal about it. I'm sticking to what I said at the very beginning. The players deserve and will play in a better arena. They have to."

Walsh's latest comments were published the same day Smith Entertainment Group, the owners of the NBA's Utah Jazz and other sports and entertainment properties in Utah, released a statement showing public interest in adding an expansion NHL team in Salt Lake City.

"We are ready to welcome the NHL and are confident that the time and attention being spent by all parties will bring one of the most exciting and dynamic leagues in the world to our community on a permanent basis," SEG owner and chairman Ryan Smith said in a statement.

The statement goes on to say the Delta Center, home of the Jazz, could host a team immediately before a new facility is built in anticipation of a bid by Salt Lake City to host the Winter Olympics in 2034.

Speaking Wednesday on The Jeff Marek Show, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman says the timing of the SEG statement is notable in relation to the ongoing situation in Arizona.

"It's impossible not to look at that and say there's a reason for this to happen around this time," Friedman said. "I think No. 1, it opens up the expansion conversation around the NHL and I think No. 2 it's a message to Arizona, that if you don't find us something we have an alternative."

{coyotes} Matt Dumba is out week to week

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

Matt Dumba is out week to week for the Coyotes with an upper-body injury, coach Andre Tourigny said Wednesday.

Dumba left a 5-2 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday early in the first period after going hard into the boards.

Tourigny said Dumba did not make the road trip, which begins at the Florida Panthers on Wednesday (7 p.m. ET; SCRIPPS, BSFL). The Coyotes then visit the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday and the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday prior to their bye week and the NHL All-Star break.

"He is not on the trip and then after, we're on the break so I can say it is week to week or whatever it is," Tourigny said. "He will not play before the break, for sure."

Arizona recalled defenseman Victor Soderstrom from Tucson of the American Hockey League on Tuesday but he is not expected to play Wednesday.

The Coyotes used seven defensemen on Monday, but Tourigny expects forward Nick Schmaltz to return against the Panthers after missing the previous three games with an injury.

{coyotes} Report: Five members of Canada’s 2018 WJC team told to surrender to London Police

--

Five players from Canada's 2018 World Juniors team have been directed to report to police in London, Ont., to face charges of sexual assault, The Globe and Mail reported Wednesday morning, citing two unnamed sources.

London Police announced later in the day that they expect to hold a media availability on Feb. 5 to provide updates. "We understand that there is significant public interest in relation to a sexual assault investigation dating back to 2018," London Police released in a statement on Wednesday afternoon. "While we are unable to provide an update at this time, we anticipate that the London Police Service will hold a press conference on Monday, February 5, 2024 to share further details.

"Location and timing of the press conference will be shared once details are confirmed. Thank you for your patience."

The prospective charges are related to an alleged sexual assault in June 2018 involving players from the 2018 team and a woman identified in court records as E.M.

The Globe reported the players have a set period of time to surrender to police, citing sources. TSN has not been able to corroborate The Globe's reporting.

A London Police Service spokeswoman declined to comment on the news report earlier in the day.

"We are unable to provide an update at this time," sergeant Sandasha Bough wrote in an email to TSN. "When there is further information to share regarding this investigation, we will be in contact with media outlets."

The allegations related to 2018 have sent shockwaves through Canadian sports after TSN reported in May 2022 that a woman referred to in court documents as E.M. had settled a $3.55 million lawsuit against Hockey Canada the Canadian Hockey League and eight unnamed former CHL players.

A parliamentary committee subsequently convened a series of hearings to demand more information from Hockey Canada about both the case and about how Hockey Canada has historically managed sexual assault allegations. As details about the federation's response to the allegations were made public, sponsors severed ties, and Hockey Canada's board and top executives were replaced.

Against a backdrop of building public pressure, London police in July reopened their investigation into the case in July of 2022 after initially closing it without laying charges in February 2019.

In December 2022, The Globe and Mail cited court documents that quoted London Police Services sergeant David Younan providing a 94-page summary of the case in which he wrote that five former Team Canada players were believed to have committed criminal offences. Other players were witnesses, Younan wrote, adding that, "Others may or may not become suspects."

{coyotes} Crouse scores bizarre goal, Coyotes end 11-game losing streak to Penguins with 5-2 win

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) The official's arm went up to signal a penalty, so the Pittsburgh Penguins pulled goalie Tristan Jarry for an extra attacker.

While circling back to set up a rush, Evgeni Malkin mishandled a pass from Kris Letang and the puck trickled across the goal line.

Long before that, Arizona's Lawson Crouse took a puck off the head.

Crouse was credited with the bizarre goal in the third period, Connor Ingram stopped 25 shots and the Coyotes ended an 11-game losing streak to the Penguins with a 5-2 win on Monday night.

"He took it off his head and about three minutes later, ended up with a goal, so all good," said Arizona's Jason Zucker, who had a goal and an assist.

Leading 3-2, the Coyotes spoiled a power play with a hooking call on Zucker early in the third period. With Jarry off the ice, the Penguins hoped to tie the game with an extra attacker before the penalty started.

Disaster happened instead and the Coyotes rolled from there to end a losing streak to Pittsburgh that dated back to 2017.

Juuso Valimaki, Alex Kerfoot and Nick Bjugstad also scored for Arizona.

"I've only seen videos of it happen somewhere, but never been in the game," Kerfoot said. "That was wild for sure."

The gaffe marred Sidney Crosby's 577th career goal, which tied him with Mark Recchi for 21st place on the NHL's all-time goals list.

Lars Eller also scored and Jarry had 22 saves for the Penguins, who gave up a two-goal lead in a loss to Vegas Saturday night.

"It just seemed like when we did get some traction in the game, we get the second goal, for example, and we got some juice, but then we get one up a minute later," Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said. "That's demoralizing."

The Coyotes jumped on Nashville with two goals by Clayton Keller in a 3-2 win Saturday night.

Arizona was sharp early against Pittsburgh.

Zucker scored 2 1/2 minutes in on a slick one-handed pass from Logan Cooley and Ingram stuffed Crosby on a breakaway midway through the first period.

The Penguins tied it early in the second period when a shot by Eller from the left circle trickled between Ingram's pads.

Valimaki put Arizona back up midway through the period, taking a pass from Keller and beating Jarry over his stick shoulder from the slot.

Crosby tied it late in the period with No. 577, angling his stick to redirect a pass from Erik Karlsson and beat Ingram from a tough angle. Karlsson extended his points streak to nine games (one goal, nine assists).

Kerfoot scored 90 seconds later, jamming a puck past Jarry after it squirted out from behind the goal. Crouse scored on Malkin's fumble and Bjugstad made it 5-2 with a charging wrister past Jarry's glove.

"We played well, we got chances, but in the end there that goalie just played well," Penguins left wing Jake Guentzel said. "Sometimes you've just got to tip your cap."

Subject: [cactuswings 4615] LOG - Mojave, California City, Victorville and Kingman (OCT/NOV/DEC 2023)

Hi all,

Apologies for the delay but please see below my logs from multiple visits late last year.  Sadly i was unable to get an over flight booked in time so the aircraft seen have either been read off on site, identified from multiple photos I have taken or via previous logs from this list.

This was my first visit since 2000 so a lot has changed with access a lot more restricted but with a large car it made life a lot easier especially around the fence at Victorville.

A big thank you for Dave Richardson for his updates which have been invaluable.

If anyone has any questions please don't hesitate to ask
