RE: [cactuswings 2160] Storage & Other News

Hi Dave,

So that means Mesa will pick up the two ex-Heavylift International/ex-Tatarstan Air CRJ-900ERs that have hardly flown other than for some ferry flights (N326MS and N329MS). Does anyone already know which other seven they will pick up? Presumably some of the ex-Andes/PLUNA/Brit Air aircraft stored in Canada?

Best regards and thanks a lot

{coyotes} Sharks beat Coyotes 3-2 in shootout

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Logan Couture scored the lone goal in the shootout to lead the San Jose Sharks to their fourth straight win, a 3-2 decision over the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic celebrated his 26th birthday by scoring the game-tying goal with 5 minutes left in the third period. Joe Pavelski also scored for the Sharks, extending his streak to four straight games with a goal.

Antti Niemi made 27 saves as San Jose extended its longest winning streak since opening the season with seven consecutive wins. Niemi stopped Antoine Vermette in overtime and turned aside all three shootout attempts.

Boyd Gordon and Radim Vrbata scored for the Coyotes, who have lost eight of their past nine games to plummet in the Western Conference standings. Jason LaBarbera made 32 saves to lose his seventh straight decision to San Jose.

Couture, who blocked a shot with San Jose short-handed in the closing seconds of overtime, started the shootout with a goal when he came in with speed and beat LaBarbera with a forehand. Niemi ended it with a pad save against Mikkel Boedker in the third round.

The Coyotes took the lead 33 seconds into the third period when Vrbata got inside of Tommy Wingels to receive a pass in the slot from Shane Doan. Niemi stopped Vrbata's first attempt but had no chance on the rebound that put Phoenix ahead 2-1.

The game stood there until late in the period when Vlasic pushed in aggressively behind the net with the Sharks desperate for the tying goal. Pavelski put a shot on net from a bad angle and Vlasic knocked the rebound past LaBarbera.

It was a clean game with neither team wanting to give up a power play by being too aggressive for a penalty. There was only one penalty called in regulation, a double minor for high-sticking against Phoenix's Rob Klinkhammer on Justin Braun in the second period.

The Coyotes paid for the offensive zone penalty when Pavelski took a drop pass from Joe Thornton at the blue line and blasted a shot past LaBarbera early in the second period to match a career best with a goal in four straight games.

The Sharks generated plenty of scoring chances in the first period but still trailed 1-0 because LaBarbera came up big in the net and Gordon capitalized on Phoenix's best opportunity. After a scramble for the puck near the front of the net, Gordon got there and lifted a backhand into the net to end Niemi's scoreless stretch of more than 136 minutes.

LaBarbera made 14 saves in the period, including tough ones from in close against Patrick Marleau and Ryane Clowe and a pad save against Thornton just before the period ended.

NOTES: The Sharks' only other regulation home loss came Feb. 5 against Chicago. ... San Jose D Jason Demers was scratched after taking a hard hit Thursday against Detroit. ... Brent Burns, who played the last nine games at forward, moved back to defense and Adam Burish played wing on a line with Thornton and Marty Havlat. ... Phoenix D Keith Yandle played in his 400th career game.

{coyotes} Coyotes-Sharks Preview 3/30/13

CarParts.com CarParts.com CarParts.com CarParts.com CarParts.com

The Phoenix Coyotes are feeling a bit better after ending a seven-game losing streak with an impressive offensive showing.

Building on that performance could be difficult, however, with a likely matchup against San Jose's Antti Niemi.

Coming off a pair of shutouts, Niemi looks to help the Sharks extend their winning streak to four Saturday night against the visiting Coyotes.

After making 22 saves in Wednesday's 4-0 win over Anaheim, Niemi stopped 27 shots the following night in a 2-0 victory over Detroit. Niemi, who has started 11 straight games for San Jose (16-11-6) with backup Thomas Greiss out with a neck injury, became the first goalie in franchise history to post shutouts on consecutive days.

"I wasn't cheating or expecting anything else," Niemi said. "I was just reading the play.''

Niemi was also on top of his game in San Jose's last meeting with the Coyotes on Feb. 9, stopping all 21 shots through overtime before giving up two goals in the shootout in a 1-0 loss.

While Niemi seems to be finding his rhythm, the same appears to be true for Joe Pavelski and Brent Burns.

Each scored in the third consecutive game for the Sharks, who are in the midst of their longest winning streak since starting the season with seven straight victories. San Jose, which began its current run with a home-and-home sweep of Pacific Division-leading Anaheim, has won each of its last three in regulation - the same number of regulation victories it had in its previous 25 contests.

"We're playing like a team,'' coach Todd McLellan said. "Each line is contributing. We've come to a little bit of an agreement. I don't know if we've actually talked about it but guys have come to the conclusion that we need to play a certain way to be successful.''

If the Coyotes can play the way they did in the first period against Nashville on Thursday, they should have no trouble being successful.

Phoenix (14-15-5) scored five times in a span of 6:40 and ended with six first-period goals en route to a 7-4 victory. The goal total was one shy of the number they had in the entirety of their skid.

"Whatever it takes, if it takes seven goals to win, that's what we need right now,'' said Radim Vrbata, who had two goals and an assist in the first period. "It was a crazy first period. That's not our style of play ... but we will take whatever we can get.''

Martin Hanzal, David Moss, Matthew Lombardi, Keith Yandle and Antoine Vermette also scored and Rostislav Klesla added a career-high four assists for the Coyotes, who had their highest-scoring game since beating San Jose 8-0 on Dec. 30, 2006.

"We're a way better team when we are going forward instead of trying to chase it,'' captain Shane Doan said. "We obviously have to be good in our own zone and be better defensively, but at the same time we have to be in attacking mindset and that makes us so much more effective.''

Mike Smith outdueled Niemi and stopped 33 shots in the last meeting, but has not played since March 21 because of an upper-body injury and will not travel to San Jose.

Jason LaBarbera, who has allowed 11 goals in his last three starts, gave up four in Phoenix's only other game against San Jose this season, a 5-3 loss on Jan. 24, and is 0-5-1 with a 3.12 goals-against average in his last seven games versus the Sharks.

{coyotes} PASTOR TO LEAD INVESTOR GROUP SEEKING TO PURCHASE COYOTES

Family escapes with savings of up to $3,000 CarParts.com Auto Accessories Enjoy 1/2 off the second person

It appears Darin Pastor, founder and CEO of Capstone Affluent Strategies, is leading a group of investors that are interested in purchasing the Phoenix Coyotes.

"Hockey is in my DNA," said Pastor. "My family has enjoyed a love affair with the sport for over three generations. When we saw the prospect to get involved with the NHL and purchase the Coyotes, it was like a dream come true."

If approved by the league's Board of Governors, Pastor's group would have controlling interest of the team and seek to keep the franchise in Glendale.

"If we have an opportunity to acquire the franchise, we will do everything we can to make sure it stays in the great city of Glendale and continues to enhance the Phoenix metropolitan area," said Pastor, who works out of Irvine, California, but is a native of Buffalo, New York.

On Wednesday, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman told Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers that a new group of investors were interested in the Coyotes, but at the time Bettman did not divulge the identity of the group.

Bettman contacted Weiers a day after the Glendale City Council commissioned Beacon Sports Capital Partners of Needham, Massachusetts to take over the search for a management company to run the arena, as well as to handle the negotiations between the city of Glendale and prospective Coyotes owners.

Pastor's group represents the first potential buyer the Coyotes franchise has had since Greg Jamison failed to meet a deadline in January.

"We've been telling people now for two months to basically put something on the table and no one has done that. And we're in the position where we can't wait any longer," Weiers said Tuesday after the council approved the Beacon deal.

The Coyotes have been run by the NHL for the past three seasons, since the team went into bankruptcy in 2009 under former owner Jerry Moyes.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Radim Vrbata had two goals and an assist and Rostislav Klesla added four assists and the Phoenix Coyotes scored six times in the opening period to cruise to a 7-4 victory over the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.

Martin Hanzal, David Moss, Matthew Lombardi, Keith Yandle and Antoine Vermette also scored for the Coyotes, who snapped a seven-game losing streak - thanks to their big first period that included five goals in a span of 6:40.

The Coyotes' seven goals were just one short of the number they had in the entirety of their skid. Phoenix has scored 10 goals in the last two nights after being outscored 16-5 in their previous six games.

David Legwand, Rich Clune, Gabriel Bourque, and Shea Weber scored for Nashville, which had its three-game winning streak snapped.

Playing their second game in as many nights following a 4-3 overtime loss at Minnesota, Phoenix jumped all over Nashville early.

Hanzal, Vrbata, and Moss gave the Coyotes a 3-0 lead before the game was even 4 minutes old. All three goals were scored against Nashville starter Pekka Rinne, who was removed from the game following Moss' tally. Rinne stopped just one of the four shots he faced in that span.

Chris Mason replaced Rinne, but it did not make much of a difference. Lombardi, a former Predator, and Yandle scored goals 1:18 apart to make it 5-0 at 8:26.

Legwand and Clune scored goals 30 seconds apart to get Nashville on the board just before the midway point of the first, but Vrbata got his second of the game at 15:57 before Bourque had the period's last goal with less than 4 minutes left.

The six goals allowed in the first tied a Nashville franchise record for most goals against in one period.

Rinne returned to Nashville's net to start the second period, but Vermette put one by him just 2:44 into the middle frame.

Klesla's four assists set career highs in both that category and points in a game.

Weber's goal came midway through the third period with the teams skating four-on-four.

Jason LaBarbera earned the victory for Phoenix, ending his personal three-game losing streak.

Notes: Lombardi's goal was the 100th of his NHL career. ... Vrbata surpassed the 400-point mark in his career. ... Thursday marked the 1,000th game of Phoenix left wing Steve Sullivan's NHL career. Sullivan played 317 regular-season games in parts of six seasons with Nashville. During his time with the Predators, Sullivan won the Bill Masterton Trophy in 2009 following his return to action after missing nearly two years with a back injury. ... Nashville has allowed a power-play goal in seven consecutive games. ... Bourque leads the Predators with 11 goals. ... Nashville C Mike Fisher had one assist, extending his scoring streak to eight games, one game shy of tying his career best.

After scoring eight goals during a seven-game losing streak, the Phoenix Coyotes found the back of the net six times in the first period of their game against the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.

The Coyotes led 3-0 before the game at Bridgestone Arena was four minutes old. Martin Hanzal scored at 1:46; Radim Vrbata made it 2-0 at 3:42; and David Moss scored eight seconds later.

That brought about a goaltending change for Nashville, with Chris Mason replacing Pekka Rinne. It didn't help -- Matthew Lombardi scored at 7:08, and Keith Yandle connected for a power-play goal at 8:26.

Nashville finally got on the board at 9:03 when David Legwand beat Jason LaBarbera, and Rich Clune made it 6-2, 30 seconds later.

Vrbata scored his second of the night at 15:57, only to see Gabriel Bourque tip a shot past LaBarbera 32 seconds later to cut the margin to 6-3.

The Coyotes scored six times on 13 shots in the opening period; the Predators had three goals on 17 shots.

The six goals tied the most scored in one period in the League this season; the San Jose Sharks scored six times in the first period at the Edmonton Oilers on Jan. 22.

Re: [cactuswings 2158] looking for help

Hi, Phil, and thanks for the thought.  I'd love to come to A-I but at the moment it's enough of a stretch making a trek across town, let alone across the country.  I'm hoping to get some interest from collectors more directly than going through eBay, which I have never used...yet.  So if you know anyone who has some space available, basement or otherwise, let them know.

Take care.

Good luck Bob- my basement is maxed out unfortunately.  You should come to Airliners Intl at Cleveland in June and have fun selling it there and visiting with folks, instead of impersonal eBay!

{coyotes} Against the odds, Sullivan to play in 1,000th game

Lead Gen Banner

The notion of playing in 1,000 career regular-season games seemed ludicrous to Steve Sullivan, a ninth-round draft pick, when he played his first game in February 1996 with the New Jersey Devils.

But the idea of reaching 1,000 games seemed even crazier in December 2008. Sullivan was a member of the Nashville Predators at the time, but he hadn't taken the ice in nearly two years because of a back injury he suffered in Feb. 2007. He missed the rest of that season, all of the 2007-08 campaign and the early stages of the 2008-09 season.

Sullivan was at a party that December for teammate Jason Arnott, who had reached the 1,000-game milestone not long before Sullivan was set to make his comeback. Sullivan had played 723 career games at that point, but that was when he decided that he would one day reach the same plateau as Arnott.

"I think that being able to play until my age is not something I ever imagined," said the 38-year-old Sullivan, who will fittingly play his 1,000th game Thursday in Nashville as a member of the Phoenix Coyotes. "Tell me that five years ago and I would've called you a liar. I was about 10 days away from coming back and we celebrated Jason Arnott's 1,000th game in Nashville, and at the party, when his wife was introducing him, she said he was the (232nd) player to reach that milestone. When she said that number, I thought it was very small.

"At that moment, that was a goal I had set for myself. I was at 720-odd games. At that moment there, that's when I thought it was attainable."

Sullivan had 11 goals and 32 points in 42 games in 2008-09 and won the Bill Masterton Trophy. He said at no point during his lengthy time away from the game did he contemplate retiring, but there were instances when the rehabilitation and frustration would get the best of him.

"That was … good days and bad days," Sullivan said. "I don't think there was any stretch where I was that part of me said I was never going to play. There are some days when you're having a rough day that you think this is probably it. But the next day probably is a good one and you bounce back from it. There were some days during that stretch of two years where I thought maybe that was it."

Sullivan was hampered by a groin injury during the 2010-11 season, but he has been extremely durable otherwise since his comeback. He played 82 games for the Predators in 2009-10 and 79 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins last season. Sullivan signed a one-year deal with the Coyotes in the offseason and has played in 30 of 33 games, posting five goals and seven assists.

After 33 games in 1996-97, the Devils shipped Sullivan to the Toronto Maple Leafs in a five-player deal that sent Hall of Fame center Doug Gilmour to New Jersey. Early in the 1999-2000 season, the Leafs waived Sullivan and he was claimed by the Chicago Blackhawks. He spent three-and-a-half seasons there before being dealt to Nashville for draft picks.

The 5-foot-9, 165-pound wing spent six seasons with the Predators, making this milestone game even more special.

"A little bit. It does. I'd be lying if I said no," Sullivan said. "I spent seven great years there and made a lot of friendships and a lot of friends away from the game. It's a great organization that treated me extremely well, even through that rough patch. They just stuck with me and just believed in me for that stretch. It'll be nice to go back and reach that feat on that ice."

Through 999 games, Sullivan has 288 goals and 742 points. That's not bad for a player who was selected in a draft round that no longer exists, was waived and spent nearly two years recovering from an injury that could've been career-ending.
