{coyotes} Goligoski traded to Coyotes from Stars

Defenseman Alex Goligoski was traded from the Dallas Stars to the Arizona Coyotes for a fifth-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft on Thursday.

Goligoski, 30, can become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

"[Goligoski] was the first domino to fall in what we hope are a series of coordinated moves to help our team," Coyotes general manager John Chayka told KMVP on Thursday. "It's more about the confidence in what we have to sell here with a team that's young and poised to break out."

In 82 regular-season games, Goligoski had five goals, 37 points and a plus-21 rating and averaged 23:50 of ice time per game. He had seven points in 13 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Goligoski spent the previous six seasons with the Stars, who acquired him in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Feb. 21, 2011.

In nine seasons with the Penguins and Stars, Goligoski has 55 goals and 277 points in 562 games. He helped the Penguins win the Stanley Cup in 2009.
