The Toronto Maple Leafs have put veterans Colin Greening and Brooks Laich on waivers as they trim their roster ahead of the regular season.

Both players were acquired by the Maple Leafs last season; Greening in the trade that sent Dion Phaneuf to the Ottawa Senators, and Laich in a trade with the Washington Capitals.

Laich, 33, scored two goals and added 12 assists in 81 games with the Leafs and Captials last season.

Greening, 30, scored seven goals and added eight assists in 30 games upon joining the Maple Leafs in February. He was pointless in one game with the Senators prior to the trade.

Laich is entering the final year of his contract and owns a cap hit of $4.5 million. Greening is also entering the final year of his deal, with a cap hit of $2.65 million.

The Maple Leafs open their season on Wednesday against the Senators.
