{coyotes} Grabner out indefinitely for Coyotes with eye injury

Michael Grabner will be out indefinitely for the Arizona Coyotes because of an eye injury.

The 31-year-old forward was injured during the first period of the Coyotes' 6-1 win against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday when forward Sammy Blais accidentally clipped him in the left eye with his stick. Grabner dropped to the ice and had to be helped to the locker room. He did not return.

Grabner has 11 points (six goals, five assists) in 25 games, including an NHL-leading four shorthanded goals. The Coyotes signed Grabner to a three-year contract on July 1. He scored 27 goals for the New York Rangers in 2016-17 and matched that total last season, scoring 25 with the Rangers and two after being traded to the New Jersey Devils on Feb. 23. His NHL career high is 34 goals with the New York Islanders in 2010-11, when he was a finalist for the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie.

The Coyotes (12-11-2) take a three-game winning streak into their game at the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday (10:30 p.m. ET; FS-W, FS-A PLUS, NHL.TV).
