Re: [cactuswings 4585] REQ: Victorville Qantas 717’s

Just for info, you shouldn't have to run or worry about being challenged anywhere around VCV! After many visits over the years I've found the security guys to be nothing but friendly. I been waved to many times from them as they patrol the inner road of the airfield, whilst I was driving around the outside.

The only hostility I've ever come up against was at the Airport Admin building. I was there in an official capacity with my airline and some of my colleagues. We asked if there was any chance of visiting one of our old aircraft that was stored out on a pan? They flatly, and quite rudely, told us no. They did add that we were welcome to drive around the perimeter, but on this occasion it was no use as our aircraft were in the middle of a lot of others on the far side of the field. Interestingly some other colleagues on another visit had more luck with the nice people at Million Air. They ran them out to the aircraft and were able to take some pictures. I should add though they were there in an official capacity, not spotting.

Another place to try at VCV is 'the hill' - although more of a huge mound of earth. I first went up there many years ago and you could drive to the top from just off Adelanto Rd. Then the 'road' up disappeared so I didn't try again until on my last visit in August. I had a 4x4 and a friend suggested driving around the back of it (you definitely wouldn't want to do it in anything less!). Sure enough I was able to drive up the back side. You get a great overview from the top, although the view to the right has now been obscured by the new warehouse buildings that have gone up over the last couple of years. You can also park at the bottom and walk up. Here's a phone picture from the top:

James - I may hit you up for some info on other boneyards. I've seen your photo's on various websites and always wondered how you got some of the close shots!

If driving behind the power plant on the dirt road , you should see this 727. If you do , you are there . No need to run , no one will be challenging you as you are off airport property . <IMG_7461.png>

If you need better access to the flightline for images , on the far east side just beyond the white paint hangars ( International Aerospace Coatings ) is a north south road , drive up this road to the end . The SW 737s being torn down are easy to access , drive the employee road behind the hangars and you will get great images . Travel a bit further to the power plant , on the south side of plant is an unmarked dirt road , drive in here as there is no security . Drive all the way back and stay to the right on the raised road . If you see a fed up 727 you are the right place . Here is a closed runway with hundreds of Max and 787s parked up plus new aircraft waiting to get painted . On the west side near the yard with the delta 727 in it is a dirt road that takes you around to the GE Services hangar , drive in here , follow the road traveled the most and it will put you face to face with their 747s . Up the west side by the Snapple Distributors are all of the newly parked 787s . Dozens of them parked along a public road . If you need visual help hit me up directly if you are still there at jamesmccloskey@aol.com. I can send you screenshot of the best spotting locations here and could give you tips for other boneyards .

Hi all,
Had a good drive round the fence today, 26/09/24 and would appreciate some help.

I saw 5x Qantas 717's. Three were marked NXR, NXM and YQV. Could someone help confirm this last one as not in Qantas sequence and also the id's of the other 2 parked midfield with some Volotea 717's.

Also could someone I'd the 2nd Vietnam A321. I could id VN-A344.

Lastly, there were 3 Viva Aerobus's. I could id 2 as VP-COK and VP-COY but would appreciate help with the 3rd.

Many thanks in advance.

Richard
