{coyotes} DALY, STEVE FEHR SPEAK OVER WEEKEND, BUT NO TALKS SCHEDULED

Even after Thursday's emotional breakdown of talks between the National Hockey League and the NHL Players' Association, the two sides continue to stay in touch.

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com reports that NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly and NHLPA special counsel Steve Fehr have spoken over the weekend but there is still nothing officially scheduled at this point.

The lockout entered its 85th day on Sunday with the prospect of more game cancellations looming early in the coming week. 422 games have been cancelled so far through Dec. 14, along with the Winter Classic and the All-Star Game.

The owners rejected the players' most recent proposal late on Thursday.

In an Email to the The Associated Press on Friday night, Daly wrote "I have no reason, nor any intention, of reaching out to the union right now. I have no new ideas. Maybe they do. We are happy to listen."

NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr spoke in Toronto on Saturday and called for talks to resume.

"It's up to them," Fehr said, following a speech to the Canadian Auto Workers union. "They're the ones who called a halt to the process.

"The one thing we know for certain is that you can't make agreements if you're not talking about it."
