Week activities

Ok there are several things I wanted to let the club know that is happening this weekend.

First, please avoid using 446.050 simplex frequency.  This will be used by the MCECG for incident simplex during the Ragnar Relay.  This is a big event that rotates hams throughout the day/night/day.  This event follows the race and is essentially the safety of the runners.  It starts in Wickenburg, Northwest of the Valley, and ends in Mesa, AZ.  These runners run various legs of this 202 mile foot relay race.  They start at 7am on Friday and end sometime Saturday night.  Be advised that the 2100 net might not be held Friday because of this event.  Last year I think they had the net, but once the net was done, the repeater was then linked to all the other repeaters throughout the valley.  If you need more info please visit these two websites:

http://www.ragnarrelay.com/race/delsol  -  this one has the maps and the best description of the event.  I think it might be too late to sign up, but if you want to listen in on the net please do so.  Please refrain from getting on these repeaters and interfering with the event.

 Incident simplex: 446.050 simplex, no PL
 Non-emergency intercom: 147.500 simplex, no PL

Next topic.  The National History net has moved to Thursday nights, same time, same bat channel (repeater) as the last time.

Next topic.  This weekend is the Lost Dutchman event at the Superstition Mountain Museum.  Please let Vinnie know if you plan on attending.  Event will start at 7am in the parking lot.  He will need assistance in setting up the radio and antennas.

Next topic.  We are looking for locations to do Field Day.  Field Day is the ARRL sponsored event that happens every single year on the 4th Weekend of June.  Dates will change, but the weekend stays the same.  We want to start looking for a few places to go.  We have several in mind, but the Rim was voted as being the one place everyone would like to go.  Now I would like to go someplace that a normal car will be able to get to.  Not everyone has a 4WD vehicle.  If you have thoughts, ideas, GPS coordinates, pictures, etc. please let us know.

Next meeting is March 27th at 6:30pm in the large room at the Mesa Utilities building.  Topic will be Echolink with possibly some time to discuss the FT-60r and repeater setup.  I would like to focus on Echolink as the main topic and if we have time we will talk about the FT60, how to program it, and how to use it.  I wont go in depth into every single mode, but I will show you how to program frequencies and set them into memory.  If you are trying something different or something out of the ordinary and we have time, I will permit you to give instructions on how to do what you are doing.
