Season series: Arizona Coyotes goaltender Louis Domingue made 26 saves and forward Tobias Rieder had two goals and an assist in a 4-0 win against the Nashville Predators on Jan. 9 at Gila River Arena. The Predators forward Filip Forsberg had two goals and an assist, and defenseman Shea Weber had three assists in a 5-2 win against the Coyotes on Dec. 1 at Bridgestone Arena.
Coyotes team scope: Forward Martin Hanzal is in Arizona with an upper-body injury, and forward Eric Selleck will miss the game with an upper-body injury, according to the Arizona Republic. The Coyotes held an optional practice Wednesday after a 6-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday. Coach Dave Tippett told the Coyotes website goaltender Mike Smith will start. Arizona will try to shut down Nashville's defense from joining the rush and creating chances offensively. "They have a lot of skill up front and a lot of defensemen who likes to join the rushes and stuff like that," Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson told the Coyotes website. "We're going to have to be aware of those players. You just kind of try to play good here for the last two games."
Predators team scope: Defenseman Anthony Bitetto joined Ryan Ellis on a defense pairing in practice and appears to be ready to return, according to the Predators website. Bitetto has missed nine games with a lower-body injury. Ellis returned to the lineup in a 4-3 win against the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday. Forward Miikka Salomaki missed practice after missing the game against Colorado. He is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury. Forward Colin Wilson had a goal and an assist on Tuesday. "I just want to keep playing that same way," Wilson said. "The closer it gets, your motivation is just win games and do whatever you can to help the team. When it's that easy of a mindset, the rest kind of takes care of itself." The game will be the last home game of the regular season for the Predators.
