Season series: The San Jose Sharks have won three of four games, outscoring the Arizona Coyotes 11-5. The Sharks have won twice at SAP Center and split two games at Gila River Arena. San Jose defeated Arizona 3-0 at SAP Center on March 20. James Reimer had a 25-save shutout, and Joel Ward, Tomas Hertl and Joe Pavelski scored. Mike Smith made 27 saves for the Coyotes on March 17 and Shane Doan, Antoine Vermette and Michael Stone scored.
Sharks team scope: San Jose, which clinched a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs last week, is coming off a 5-4 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday at SAP Center that locked them into a third-place finish in the Pacific Division. San Jose will open its Western Conference First Round series on the road against the Los Angeles Kings or Anaheim Ducks. Defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic had his first full practice Friday since sustaining a knee injury on March 17 against Arizona and could play. "He looks good," Sharks coach Peter DeBoer said after practice. "We'll make some decisions on tomorrow's lineup, but I know for a fact he'll be ready for the playoffs, which is good news." Martin Jones, who allowed five goals on 26 shots against Winnipeg, will start.
Coyotes team scope: Arizona had a 2-0 second-period lead before losing 3-2 in overtime to the Nashville Predators on Thursday at Bridgestone Arena. The Coyotes have lost three straight and five of their past six games entering their season finale. "All we can do is worry about ourselves and try to come back in San Jose and win a hockey game and kind of go out feeling good," goaltender Mike Smith told the Arizona Republic after the loss. Defenseman Nicklas Grossman, who left earlier in the week for the birth of his first child, is expected to rejoin the team in San Jose and could be in the lineup.
