Season series: Florida Panthers forward Aleksander Barkov scored twice and Vincent Trocheck also scored in a 3-2 win against the Arizona Coyotes on Feb. 25 at BB&T Center. Forward Shane Doan and defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored for Arizona.
Panthers team scope: Forward Jaromir Jagr needs one point to break a tie with Gordie Howe and move into sole possession of third place on the NHL's all-time scoring list. Florida needs points in general: the Tampa Bay Lightning have overtaken them for first in the Atlantic Division by virtue of having five more regulation/overtime wins. Jagr matched Howe at 1,850 points with an assist Thursday, but the Panthers lost 3-2 to the Colorado Avalanche. "When we were winning, we always had a good start,'' said Jagr, who is set to tie Ray Bourque for ninth with his 1,612th NHL game. "It's our mistakes, nobody else." Al Montoya is ready to return from a head injury, according to the Sun Sentinel, Goalie Mike McKenna was returned to Portland of the American Hockey League.
Coyotes team scope: Forward Max Domi was suspended for one game after picking up an instigator penalty in the final five minutes of a 5-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday. Rookie goalie Louis Domingue could appear in his 13th consecutive game. Domingue had started 11 straight before Arizona went with another rookie, Niklas Treutle, to make his NHL debut against Anaheim. Treutle was pulled after allowing five goals on 16 shots in two periods and Domingue played the third. "That's where we are. We have to give Louis a break. That's too much to ask for a young guy. Now that being said, throwing the young guy in there [Thursday] was probably too much to ask from him too," coach Dave Tippett told the Coyotes website. Forward Alex Tanguay and defenseman Zbynek Michalek are day-to-day with lower-body injuries. Tanguay could make his debut with Arizona after being acquired from the Colorado at the NHL Trade Deadline.
