Season series: The Arizona Coyotes defeated the Dallas Stars 6-3 at Gila River Arena on Feb. 18. Coyotes rookie forward Max Domi had two goals and an assist, and goaltender Louis Domingue made 36 saves. Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin each had a goal and an assist for the Stars.
Stars team scope: Dallas held an outdoor workout after arriving in Arizona following a 6-2 victory at the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday that clinched a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Stars are in first place in the Central Division, two points ahead of the St. Louis Blues. "We're able to take a breather, we're trying to rest, knowing that we've got some work to do [Thursday]," coach Lindy Ruff told the Stars website. Dallas has allowed five goals during a three-game winning streak. "I think the credit mainly lies with a group of our best offensive players trying to do the right thing at the right time in the game," Ruff said. "The fact is that our tracking [the puck] and getting people back is as good as it's been all year long." Forward Mattias Janmark (upper body) could return after missing five games, and defenseman Kris Russell (lower body) might be able to play after missing the game in Chicago.
Coyotes team scope: Domingue will start after Mike Smith made 27 saves in a 4-2 victory against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, and center Martin Hanzal is expected to play after taking a maintenance day Wednesday, coach Dave Tippett said. The Coyotes have won four of their past six games. It's the second game back for defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson, who had an assist against Edmonton after missing six games with a shoulder injury. "You can't replace that guy," Smith said after the game. "He's a special player and when he's out … our defense has done a great job filling the void, but those minutes, the skill and the leadership is a lot to cover for."
