Coyotes team scope
Center Alexander Burmistrov will play his first game with the Arizona Coyotes after being claimed off of waivers from the Winnipeg Jets on Jan. 1. Burmistrov had two assists in 23 games with Winnipeg this season. "He's anxious to play," coach Dave Tippett said. "He's a good, skilled player, thinks the game well and hasn't played for a while, so we'll get him up and going and see where he fits." The Coyotes lost 3-0 against the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday, which ended a two-game winning streak. The Coyotes have lost 10 of their past 12 games (2-9-1) and are last in the Pacific Division. Arizona has earned at least a point in 25 of their past 26 games against the Edmonton Oilers. The point streak came to an end Dec. 21 in a 3-2 loss. "We know they want to play a fast game and they have a highly-skilled forward group over there," forward Tobias Rieder said. "In the past, we did a pretty good job of denying them the puck or playing tight on them so they don't get as much space on the ice."
Oilers team scope
Defenseman Adam Larsson will be a game-time decision against the according to coach Todd McLellan. Larsson sustained a lower-body injury against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday and missed a 2-1 shootout win against the Calgary Flames on Saturday. "I would say that he's pretty darn close to playing," McLellan said. "We'll see after the skate [warm up]. I thought we were okay [without him]. We missed him, but yet we had some good performances from some guys that needed to pick it up a little bit and that was good to see." The Oilers are on a two-game winning streak and have won four of their past six games (4-2-0). "They're playing good of late," forward Patrick Maroon said of the Coyotes. "They are really frustrating to play against, but for us we have to find ways not to turn pucks over at the neutral zone, get pucks deep and go to work. These are the points we need tonight, especially against Arizona."
