Ducks team scope
The Anaheim Ducks are have surged into first place in the Pacific Division with wins in five of their past six games (5-1-0) and points in nine of the past 10 games (6-1-3). Goalie John Gibson is 7-1-3 in his past 11 starts and made 33 saves in a 4-1 win against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday. The Ducks have a morning skate Saturday, and with a game against St. Louis Blues on Sunday, Jonathan Bernier could get the start in goal against the Arizona Coyotes. Nine Ducks players had at least one point against the Avalanche. Six-time 30-goal scorer Corey Perry had an empty-net goal to end a 13-game goal drought. He is four points way from 700 in his NHL career. Cam Fowler assisted on Perry's goal to give him 201 NHL points, passing Matt Cullen for ninth on the Ducks all-time scoring list. Rickard Rakell also scored against the Avalanche, giving him 17 goals in 33 games and tying Ryan Kesler for the team lead. The Ducks are 12-2-3 in their past 17 games against the Coyotes.
Coyotes team scope
The Coyotes are going for their first three-game winning streak of the season. They scored four times in the first period and hung on for a 4-3 win against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday. It was the first time the Coyotes had scored four goals in any period since a game against the Edmonton Oilers on Dec. 1, 2014. Brendan Perlini, the 12th pick of the 2014 NHL Draft, had his first two-goal NHL game against the Jets. "Perlini's first goal really gave our group some energy," coach Dave Tippett said Friday. "After that, we created some opportunities and got some fortunate bounces." Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Radim Vrbata each tied NHL career highs with three assists. Goalie Louis Domingue will get the start against the Ducks after Mike Smith made 34 saves and won for the first time since Dec. 15. The Coyotes still will be without forwards Jordan Martinook (upper body) and Ryan White (lower body). Both are now skating and day-to-day. Tippett said forward Alexander Burmistrov, who lost almost two weeks to visa issues after being claimed on waivers Jan. 2, will not make his debut Saturday. "He needs more time after not skating for a week," Tippett said.
