The big-spending Buffalo Sabres have reportedly made a significant offer to veteran free agent forward Shane Doan.

According to ESPN's John Buccigross, the Sabres have offered the 35-year-old winger a four-year, $30-million deal.

Doan, the top free agent available, has fielded multiple offers this summer while waiting for a resolution to the ongoing Phoenix Coyotes ownership situation.

The Coyotes captain has stated his first choice is to remain in Phoenix, but not without stable ownership in place and a commitment to keep the franchise in the desert.

Prospective Coyotes owner Greg Jamison is currently looking for investors and partners in an effort to buy the floundering franchise from the NHL. According to a recent report from The Phoenix Business Journal, Jamison is $20 million short of the money he needs to buy the Coyotes and keep them in Glendale.

Sabres owner Terry Pegula, meanwhile, appears committed to a win-at-all-costs philosophy, having inked free agents Ville Leino and Christian Ehrhoff to mammoth big-money contracts last summer.

Doan scored 22 goals and 50 points in 79 games last season, his worst point total since 2001-2002. He was drafted seventh overall by the Winnipeg Jets in 1995.
