Season series: The Tampa Bay Lightning swept a two-game set against the Arizona Coyotes in 2014-15, outscoring them 11-5. Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov got his first NHL hat trick in a 7-3 win at Amalie Arena on Oct. 28, 2014. Ondrej Palat scored twice in a 4-2 victory at Gila River Arena on Feb. 21, 2015.
Coyotes team scope: Arizona will play its second game in as many nights after opening its five-game road trip with a 3-2 loss at the Washington Capitals on Monday. "It's a great challenge for us, a great challenge for our team to see if we can bring it again [Tuesday] night and find a way to win," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. Rookie goalie Niklas Treutle could get his first NHL start Tuesday; Louis Domingue made 31 saves in Washington. Treutle made four saves in relief of Domingue in a 6-4 loss against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday. Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson will play his 400th NHL game Tuesday.
Lightning team scope: Tampa Bay did not practice Monday, but general manager Steve Yzerman told The Tampa Tribune that Kucherov remains day-to-day because of a lower-body injury. Kucherov, who leads the Lightning with 49 points, did not play in Tampa Bay's 4-2 win at the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Right wing Ryan Callahan has three goals in his past four games after going 18 games without a goal. "The confidence is definitely there again," Callahan told the Lightning website. "It's funny how that works sometimes, you get one and you start rolling again. I haven't changed the way I've played or anything like that, it's a just a matter of capitalizing on some of the opportunities. Hopefully it'll keep going." The Lightning recalled defenseman Matt Taormina and sent defenseman Slater Koekkoek to Syracuse of the American Hockey League on Monday.
