Season series: The Arizona Coyotes are 3-0-1 against the Los Angeles Kings, led by four goals from defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson. Forward Dustin Brown has three goals to lead the Kings. Forward Anze Kopitar's overtime goal on Dec. 26 gave Los Angeles its only win, 4-3 at Gila River Arena in Arizona.

Kings team scope: Goalie Jonathan Quick, the expected starter, helped the Pacific Division capture the $1 million prize at the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Sunday by teaming with John Gibson of the Anaheim Ducks on a shutout in a 1-0 win against the Atlantic Division. Quick will be looking to end a personal three-game losing streak he carried into the break, including a 4-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Jan. 27 in the Kings' most recent game. Defenseman Drew Doughty, another returning all-star, has goals in consecutive games and is six off his career-high of 16 set in 2009-10. Los Angeles, which leads the Pacific by seven points over the San Jose Sharks, starts a stretch where it plays eight of nine on the road. "If you look around the room and right down the line … this has gotta be one of the best teams we've ever had on paper, without a doubt," Doughty told the Los Angeles Times.

Coyotes team scope: Goaltender Louis Domingue, the expected starter, was named Monday as the NHL's rookie of the month for January. Domingue was 6-3-2 in 11 games with a 2.20 goals-against average and .925 save percentage. He allowed two goals or fewer seven times. Rookie forward Anthony Duclair ended a seven-game goal drought in Arizona's 5-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Jan. 26, its most recent game. Duclair tied fellow rookie Max Domi for third on the Coyotes with his 13th goal. Forward Brad Richardson has two goals and one assist in his past four games. The Coyotes hold third place in the Pacific and an automatic berth into the Stanley Cup Playoffs by two points over the Ducks and Vancouver Canucks. "I'm excited to see the next couple months, what we can do," general manager Don Maloney told the Arizona Republic.
