Season series: The Arizona Coyotes rallied to defeat the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 in a shootout Nov. 7. Coyotes goalie Mike Smith allowed one of three Ducks shooters to beat him in the tiebreaker after making 37 saves through overtime.

Coyotes team scope: Arizona has split the first two of its three-game road trip following a 4-3 shootout win against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday. Antoine Vermette scored a power-play goal in the first period, then beat Sharks goalie Antti Niemi for the lone goal in the tiebreaker. Backup goalie Devan Dubnyk made 40 saves through overtime before turning aside all three Sharks shooters. San Jose rallied to tie the game after falling behind 2-0 and 3-2. "Good teams, that's what they do; they push back, they find a way to generate some energy and goals, like [the Sharks] did," Vermette told the Coyotes website. "But we stuck with it, we came back. I thought [Shane Doan's goal early in the third period], it was a big goal for us. It was big momentum for us. We kind of build on it, we had a few strong good shifts before that. In the third, we kept playing our game and we found a way." The Coyotes are 6-5-1 in November after going 2-5-1 in October. After this game, they'll play seven of nine at home, where they are 4-4-1.

Ducks team scope: Forward Rene Bourque, acquired in a trade with the Montreal Canadiens for defenseman Bryan Allen on Thursday, skated with Patrick Maroon, Ryan Kesler and Kyle Palmieri on Saturday in his first practice with Anaheim. "I think I have a lot left and a lot to give to this team," Bourque said, according to the Ducks website. "I'm looking forward to the opportunity." Montreal assigned the 32-year-old forward to Hamilton of the American Hockey League after he cleared waivers Nov. 10. He was goalless with two assists in 13 games with the Canadiens after scoring eight goals in 17 games in the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Coach Bruce Boudreau said following practice it had not been decided whether Bourque will make his Anaheim debut against Arizona. The Ducks are 3-1-5 in November. After a strong open to the season, Frederik Andersen is 1-1-2 with a 3.62 goals-against average and .853 save percentage in his past five starts.
