A source has told TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger that the NHL's dry scrape of the ice prior to overtime could be abandoned as early as this weekend.

In its place, Dreger says that full shovel crews would handle the same job in two minutes or less.

Currently, Toronto and Buffalo are among the arenas that use a full shovel crew during commercial breaks.

National Hockey League general managers are discussing the issue at their meetings on Tuesday, but Dreger notes that the dry scrape change is not yet a done deal.
