ANAHEIM -- Sam Gagner and Mikkel Boedker scored and goalie Mike Smith stopped two of three attempts in the shootout to give the Arizona Coyotes a 3-2 win against the Anaheim Ducks on Friday at Honda Center.

Gagner lifted a backhander past Ducks goalie Frederik Andersen and Boedker deked and scored on a snap shot. Smith, who made 37 saves through overtime, stopped Devante Smith-Pelly and Ryan Kesler to seal Arizona's third straight win.

Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler left the game with a lower-body injury after he played five shifts in the third. Coach Bruce Boudreau said after the game that Fowler is day-to-day.

Anaheim came agonizingly close to scoring in the third period. Andrew Cogliano shot wide on a late-developing 2-on-0 pass from William Karlsson. The Ducks got three power plays against Arizona's 27th-ranked penalty kill but couldn't convert despite some good looks each time.

Arizona erased a 2-0 deficit with two goals in 58 seconds early in the second period. Rob Klinkhammer tipped in Martin Hanzal's pass at 3:55 after the Coyotes hemmed in the Ducks. Shane Doan scored on a wrist shot from the left side to finish a rush at 4:53, a goal that prompted coach Bruce Boudreau to call his timeout and chastise their lackadaisical backcheck.

It was Doan's 33rd career goal against the Ducks, which moved him past Brett Hull for the most scored against Anaheim.

Matt Beleskey gave Anaheim a 2-0 lead when he bumped Coyotes defenseman Connor Murphy off the puck at the half wall and headed to the net to chip in Jakob Silfverberg's rebound at 8:49 of the first period. Beleskey has seven goals, two shy of his total in 55 games last season and four shy of his career-high 11 in 2009-10.

Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf scored a goal in his return from a bout with flu-like symptoms, but linemate and NHL scoring leader Corey Perry missed his second game with the same illness.

Getzlaf showed he was in fine health with his fourth goal this season 5:02 into the game, a one-timer from his knee on the power play after Sami Vatanen made a pass while falling forward.

It was the sixth straight game in which Arizona allowed a power-play goal. The Coyotes have been outscored 19-9 in the first period this season.

Anaheim defenseman Bryan Allen made his season debut.
