Season series: The Arizona Coyotes will be going for a sweep of two games against the Montreal Canadiens. The Coyotes trailed by two goals but won at Bell Centre on Super Bowl Sunday.
Canadiens team scope: Montreal had all three of its NHL Trade Deadline acquisitions at practice for the first time Friday. Forwards Brian Flynn and Torrey Mitchell skated on the fourth line with Brandon Prust; defenseman Jeff Petry worked with Tom Gilbert on the second pairing. Coach Michel Therrien said goalie Carey Price will start after Dustin Tokarski played Thursday in a 4-3 shootout loss at the Los Angeles Kings; the Canadiens are 0-2-1 on their road trip. Therrien said defenseman Sergei Gonchar will replace Mike Weaver, and injured defenseman Alexei Emelin is getting close to returning.
Coyotes team scope: Rookie goaltender Louis Domingue, a Montreal native, got the win when the Coyotes rallied to defeat the Canadiens 3-2 on Feb. 1, but coach Dave Tippett said Friday that Mike Smith will start the rematch. "Smitty played well [Thursday] night," Tippett said Friday of Smith's 32 saves in a 3-2 shootout win against the Vancouver Canucks that ended Arizona's 10-game losing streak. The roster turnover in the past week has made life hectic for Tippett; four of the 18 skaters who played Thursday weren't with the Coyotes a week ago. "It's hard when you make changes," he said. "We made so many changes in such a short time. It's hard to get everybody in and up and going. Time has helped that, a couple of good practices. I thought all the new guys played well [Thursday]."
