Season series: The Los Angeles Kings are 2-0-1 against the Arizona Coyotes and have won the past two games, outscoring them 8-2. Los Angeles forward Jeff Carter has three goals and center Anze Kopitar has three points (one goal, two assists).

Coyotes team scope: Arizona did not practice Sunday and finished a six-game homestand 1-4-1 after a 4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. Coyotes captain Shane Doan scored his 13th goal. "You're trying to push to get back in the game, you get a goal and the next line is trying to push too," Doan said. "Then you're caught on the wrong side of it. They found a way to bury it. … They scored pretty much every goal off second-chance opportunities. (Goalie Mike Smith) is making the first save and we've got to find a way to get that puck." Smith allowed four goals on 29 shots and has lost 12 of his past 13 games. He has allowed four or more goals in five of them.

Kings team scope: Defenseman Alec Martinez (concussion-like symptoms) skated Sunday, but isn't likely to return Monday, according to LAKingsInsider.com. Center Jarret Stoll did not play in the Kings' 2-1 loss to the Nashville Predators on Saturday and is still being evaluated from the effects of a hit he sustained against the Vancouver Canucks last Thursday. There is no timetable for Stoll's return and no call-up is imminent. Los Angeles trails the Winnipeg Jets by one point for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference with one game in hand. The Kings had a chance to regain possession of the second wild card Saturday, but blew a one-goal lead in the third period against the Predators. ''Obviously a tough break, but we gave them too many chances off of our mistakes and our poor management of the puck,'' Kopitar said, according to CBSSports.com. Carter scored his team-leading 24th goal Saturday; he has six goals in his past seven games.
