BUFFALO -- Sam Gagner scored 56 seconds into overtime to lift the Arizona Coyotes to a 4-3 win against the Buffalo Sabres at First Niagara Center on Thursday

Gagner's 13th goal came with Sabres defenseman Mike Weber in the penalty box for tripping. He took a slap shot from the left faceoff circle that beat Sabres goalie Matt Hackett low into the left side of the net.

Sabres captain Brian Gionta tied it 3-3 with an unassisted power-play goal with 3:37 left in the third period. Gionta intercepted a clearing attempt by Coyotes captain Shane Doan and took a slap shot that beat goalie Mike Smith for his 10th goal.

The Coyotes (23-44-8) have won two straight games for the first time since Feb. 1 and 3. They have won four of the past 22 games.

The Sabres (20-46-8) have lost four straight games and have one victory in the past 12 games.

Buffalo's 48 points are the fewest in the NHL. The Sabres are six points behind the Coyotes, who are 29th in the League standings.

David Moss gave the Coyotes a 3-2 lead with 5:40 left in the second period with his fourth goal. He deflected a shot from the blue line by Gagner past Hackett.

The goal was Moss' third in the past two games. He scored twice in a 5-4 overtime win against the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.

Arizona came back strong after Buffalo took a 2-1 lead on Rasmus Ristolainen's power-play goal 8:37 into the second period.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored his 21st goal 2:52 later to tie the game.

Jordan Szwarz's first goal of the season gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead 7:55 into the first period, but Tyler Ennis tied it 2:54 later with his 19 th goal, which leads the Sabres, when he beat Smith on a 2-on-1 with Matt Moulson against Coyotes defenseman Michael Stone.

Smith made 32 saves, and Hackett 38.
