COYOTES (0-0-0) at KINGS (0-1-0)

TV: FS-A, FS-W

Season series: The Los Angeles Kings were 3-0-1 against the Arizona Coyotes in 2014-15. Jeff Carter's three goals led the Kings, and goalie Jonathan Quick was 2-0-1 with a 1.62 goals-against average and .939 save percentage. Arizona goalie Mike Smith was 0-2-0 against Los Angeles despite a .931 save percentage. Center Antoine Vermette had a goal and an assist. The Kings outscored the Coyotes 11-5 and outshot them 139-108.

Coyotes team scope: Forward Max Domi, the son of former NHL player Tie Domi and Arizona's first-round pick (No. 12) at the 2013 NHL Draft, will make his professional debut playing on a line with Vermette and Mikkel Boedker. "He's waited a long time for it, and he's earned the right to be here," coach Dave Tippett told the Coyotes website Thursday. "It will be very exciting for him. He's a very mature kid. He'll get in, and I expect him to play very well." Forward Shane Doan is eager to begin his 20th NHL season, and 12th as Coyotes captain, against the Kings. "It's always a fun game and going into that building," Doan, who turns 39 on Saturday, told azcentral.com. "Obviously, it was a tough game for them [a 5-1 season-opening loss to the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday], so they're going to be a little grumpy, and we've got to make sure we're good." Smith, coming off his worst season with Arizona (14-42-5, 3.16 GAA, .904 save percentage), will start in goal. The Coyotes placed forward John Scott on waivers Thursday.

Kings team scope: Forward Milan Lucic will not face disciplinary action by the League after he was assessed a match penalty following an altercation with San Jose center Logan Couture late in the third period, lakingsinsider.com reported. Coach Darryl Sutter said Thursday he expects more from the Kings' No. 1 line of Lucic, Anze Kopitar and Marian Gaborik after it was a combined minus-6 and had four shots on goal against the Sharks. "It was just we didn't get much out of the top end of our lineup at all," Sutter said. "You look at what they got and what we didn't get, that's the difference in the game." Quick likely will start again after he made 27 saves on 32 shots in the opener.
