COYOTES (4-3-1) at MAPLE LEAFS (1-4-2)

TV: TVA Sports, TSN4, FS-A

Season series: The Arizona Coyotes defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs twice last season. Mike Smith was 2-0-0 and allowed three goals on 58 shots (.945 save percentage). Maple Leafs forward James van Riemsdyk had two assists in two games.

Coyotes team scope: Arizona continues a five game road trip in Toronto. Smith likely will be in net after having the night off in a 4-1 win against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. Forward Antoine Vermette missed the game because of a lower-body injury, ending his streak of 482 consecutive games played and is questionable Monday. Forward Mikkel Boedker had a hat trick Saturday and coach Dave Tippett said it could be the start of a scoring streak. "The goal he scored in New Jersey [Tuesday] was a big goal for us. …the Rangers game [Thursday] he didn't have a great game but then he came back [Saturday] and had an excellent game so hopefully that's the spark that he needs on this road trip," Tippett told the Coyotes website Saturday. The Coyotes did not practice Sunday.

Maple Leafs team scope: Maple Leafs team scope: Defenseman Jake Gardiner and center Tyler Bozak practiced Sunday but their availability for Monday is unknown. Gardiner has missed the past two games because of an undisclosed injury. Bozak has missed three games because of a lower-body injury. "Obviously they make us a better team and we'd like to have them back," coach Mike Babcock told the Toronto website. "We'd like to have them right now. The way I look at it though is [Byron] Froese got to play [Saturday]. … I thought he was pretty good. I liked him and he'll play again [Monday]. The other guys get an opportunity they wouldn't get and that's a good thing." Forwards Leo Komarov and Nick Spaling did not practice Sunday but Babcock said they are expected to be in the lineup Monday. The Maple Leafs have lost three straight games (0-2-1) and have scored a combined five goals during that span.
