Season series: The Ottawa Senators scored 12 goals in two games as they swept the Arizona Coyotes last season. Forwards Mike Hoffman and Milan Michalek scored in each win.

Coyotes team scope: Arizona held an optional skate Friday after its fourth straight loss, 4-1 at the New York Rangers on Thursday. Forward Antoine Vermette was not among those skating and has a lower-body injury, according to the Arizona Republic. Coach Dave Tippett said he will be re-evaluated Saturday. Tippett stressed the need for added contributions up and down the lineup. "If we expect Shane Doan or the kids to carry the load, that's not realistic," he said in comments tweeted by the Coyotes. "We need our middle corps to do more for us." Defenseman Klas Dahlbeck, acquired last season from the Chicago Blackhawks in the Vermette trade, comes off his second NHL goal and first with the Coyotes. Arizona will be looking to get its power play going; at 9.4 percent it ranked 26th in the League entering games Friday.

Senators team scope: Hoffman is day-to-day with a lower-body injury, coach Dave Cameron said Friday. Hoffman has four goals in as many games, including one in a 5-4 shootout loss to the New Jersey Devils on Thursday that left Ottawa at 0-1-2 in its past three games. Defenseman Marc Methot (concussion) is a possibility to return after missing two games, but he must be cleared first. Goalie Craig Anderson is the likely starter after Andrew Hammond made his season debut against the Devils and allowed four goals on 32 shots. The Senators enter the weekend tied for eighth in scoring at 3.14 goals per game, but have allowed the fourth-most goals against, 2.86 per game.
