Season series: The Pittsburgh Penguins swept two games from the Arizona Coyotes in a one-week span last season, including a 3-1 victory at Gila River Arena on March 21. Sidney Crosby led the Penguins with two goals and five points; Tobias Rieder scored twice for the Coyotes.

Penguins team scope: The Penguins canceled practice Friday, opting for an off-ice workout instead after their season-opening 3-0 loss at the Dallas Stars the night before. Expect coach Mike Johnston to emphasize getting to the net after the Penguins failed to score on 37 shots against Stars goaltender Antti Niemi, who rarely had trouble finding the puck. The Penguins also need to improve their special-teams play: they were 0-for-3 on the power play and allowed the Stars to score two goals on five opportunities. "Obviously, special teams, as we know, is really important," captain Sidney Crosby said. "We gave a couple up on the power play."

Coyotes team scope: Rookie forward Max Domi will step onto the ice for his first home game having already scored his first NHL goal. He had a goal and an assist Friday to help the Coyotes open their season with a 4-1 victory at the Los Angeles Kings. "It was a lot of fun," Domi said. "It was tough to get a smile off my face that whole 60 minutes. But it's awful nice to get the win and start the season off the right way." The Coyotes scored four times on their first 10 shots and got a 40-save performance by goaltender Mike Smith, who allowed six goals in the season-opener a year ago. "That was a much different start than last year, that's for sure," coach Dave Tippett said. "That's the last time we want to talk about last year."
